Better Business Bureau

Summarised from their site at www.bbb.org

The BBB is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1912 to monitor and report marketplace activities to the public. There are over 130 offices in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. When a BBB receives a complaint, it is presented to the business and their assistance requested in working out the problem with the customer.

BBB members agree to respond to consumer complaints presented by the BBB, and lose their membership if they do not. Most other companies will also cooperate with the BBB, but in circumstances where they are not willing to respond, it wil be noted in the company's reliability report the BBB provides to the public.

BBB funding comes from businesses, and some may dispute their impartiality. The BBB state that they have been supported by business for over 80yrs because an ethical marketplace is in everyone's best interests.

Some MMOG companies are members of the BBB, but even in cases where they aren't, this is another avenue the customer can try to get a response from Customer Support. The response may not be satisfactory of course, but it's better than none at all. A sample of a complaint report can be seen here.

This is about exerting pressure through the few channels we have available to us to make it clear that we would like the same courtesies and rights extended to us as we would in the real world as consumers. While it may be felt that such efforts at obtaining redress are insignificant, as long as that perception prevents us from action, nothing will change.

Below are links to some of the MMOG Businesses represented on the BBB. If you have others to add, please feel free to email content@anarchy-online.biz
